The amount of water you can collect depends on just two factors: the area of your catchment surface (usually your roof) and the rainfall at your location. Once you know both, you can size a tank, estimate your water bill savings and decide whether the investment makes financial and environmental sense.
Collectable rainwater (litres) = Roof Area (m²) × Annual Rainfall (mm) × Runoff Coefficient × 0.001. The runoff coefficient accounts for evaporation, splash loss and surface absorption — typically 0.75–0.85 for concrete/tile roofs, 0.65–0.75 for sloped metal roofs.
